Re: New G506 Chevy Truck owner in the States, by darog

Hello again,
Thanks for the replies. I need details and photos and specific measurements of the wood floor boards of a composite bed for the Chevrolet 1 1 /2 ton Cargo truck. My bed is a replacement bed by a previous owner. It was not done correctly. I would like to fix it back the right way. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Local shows, by nige

I'm still waiting for confirmation of Buckfastleigh, although the date does appear in the Devon MVT website as 10/11 July. Drogo is 25/26 Sept. Okehampton, well, we'll just have to hope the new Camp Commandant is going to put it on, but I've booked leave already for 11/12 September. Mount Edgecombe, well I don't know about that one.

Military & Flying Machines Show, 7/8 August 2010, Upminster, Essex, by trace

Daymns Hall Aerodrome, Upminster, again opens its gates on the 7th & 8th August for a weekend for the Essex MVT Military and Flying Machines Show.  This year’s event marks the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and pays homage to the brave men and women of the 1940s.   The event will be opened by a local WW2 veteran who will start proceedings by firing the 25pdr field gun.  The 1940’s will be revisited with displays of three life-size replica Spitfires, over 250 vintage military vehicles, an armored vehicle parade, and for the first time since the war an example of every military vehicle that was produced locally at Fords Dagenham plant will be reunited.  There will also be dazzling aircraft displays from including a WW2 Spitfire and a Messerschmitt 108. There will also be an opportunity to meet over 50 living history groups, creating an exceptional atmosphere at this memorable event.  Over 10,000 people attended last year and the Essex Branch of the Military Vehicle Trust have worked hard to ensure a great day out for all of the family in 2010.

Hello to All, by trace

Hi everyone on MVWF.  I've never used a forum before so this is all new to me.  We have a 1944 Ford Jeep and I help to organise local shows and military runs.  I would really like to get in touch with other local vehicle owners in the essex area.

Anyway - hopefully you'll all make me welcome and show me the ropes around the forum.

Cheers, Trace

Land Rover pics, by ferryman

The real thing, a wolf in wolf's clothing.....and my look a like, a sheep in wolf's clothing. I did an article on here once about military motorsport, but that was some time ago. The driver in the real rally LR has written a book about his exploits, sadly not yet published.

I will have a look through my pictures and send you any of the cargo bed I have.  I'll also see if I can find the measurements I took off the original boards.

Re: New G506 Chevy Truck owner in the States, by darog

Hello Paul,
Thanks for the reply. My personal email address:
rogerbean60@hotmail.com

Best to send photos to me at that address. I have used VOV for brake parts and Bill Muller at VOV is very helpful. Yeah-we are very happpy with our 1945 Chevy cargo truck. We have the 1947 State of Idaho  title from the original owner when he bought it at an Army surplus auction after the war. Pretty neat! It runs pretty good. I am doing  a total brake service on it this winter. I am just about to reinstall the hydrovac and wheel cylinders. Very cold over here now.
Very hard to obtain information on the composite bed. I have purchased the TM's for the truck. TM showed very little details about the composite bed structure. No photos and no measurements. I need topside and underside photos. A previous owner removed the original boards and the metal skid strips. So- I am starting with little evidence from the past. I have troop seats, tailgate, spare tire holder and center correct gas tank.
Any bed photos and specific details would be very helpful to me.
Thanks again,
Roger

Re: New owner of 1945 Chevy 1 1/2 ton Cargo no winch in Indiana and new member, by pop-larkin

Hi Roger.
I have pics of my bed before I removed the old wood.  And somewhere I have the measurements of the floor boards.

If you need to buy parts, then your best bet will be Vehicles of Victory .  They have alot of NOS parts, as well as some very good repro parts.

Good lick with you project and if you need any info, then let me know.

Walt Wolf TUL replica FS: Any interest?, by gavfoz

The possibilitiy is looming:

Wolf TUL based on a pre-defender 90. Chassis/axles/gearbox/transfer box mostly dates back to 1986 when the van was first registered. Everything above that is probably much newer! Speedo says almost 140000miles, original 2.5nad now resides in my 109 but the ex-Discovery 200TDi in the Wolf is a good one. Mileage unknown for sure but believed to be around the 125000mile mark.

New windscreen
Wolf front panel with bonnet release
Rust-free TD5 bulkhead fitted not so long back
Wolf seats
New Wolf hood fitted 6 months ago
Wolf rear tub side panels
Wolf spec lighting
Dexion racking
SA80 mounts
Chassis had rear crossmeber replaced by PO
New door tops
New door bottoms
I have Wolf door cards to be sold with the van
Wolf steering guard
Rad-Haz kit
Wolf Water can racks in rear tub which cunningly conceal sterio speakers.
Wolf rear seats in back
Also got Wolf spec removable seat belts for bench seats to go with van
Allisport uprated standard fit intercooler with tweaked fuel pump and turbo actuator arm. Turbo boost gauge fitted in dash
Snow blind kit
All tyres are good, side mounted spare is brand new!
MOT due be 15th May 2010
Can't remember exactly but its got at least 6moths tax

A pretty good and almost complete replica. Just requires rear tub side internal reinforcement panels really and then it would be pukka!

More pics to come.

Picture sizes, by plainmilitary

Hello guys and gals, not been around this neck of the woods for a while, hope you are all well. If it's ok with the mods, I would like to post some snaps of the modern kit out on Salisbury Plain. One question, is there a prefered size you would like them? I normally work at around 920MPix, is that ok.
Many thanks.

New G506 Chevy Truck owner in the States, by darog

Hello,
My wife and I bought a 1945 Chevy 1 1/2 ton Cargo no winch truck in Sept. 2009. We are collecting information about the truck and looking for help on the various areas that need attention. We also own a 1942 GPW and a 1942 Bantam trailer. We drive the jeep in summer parades and local airshows. Her father was in wounded on April 1 1945 just after crossing the Remagen Bridge. My father was an MP in Hawaii in 1945-46. He had very good duty. We restored the jeep using the unit markings of her father during the war. We have a son that lives in Vienna and is a teacher. I visited Omaha and Utah Beaches, Caen, Bayeux, Brecourt Manor, Ste-Mere-Eglise,Carentan, Paris and Versailles  in 2004. My son-in-law is in Iraq with Army and my nephew is a Marine in Afghan. Any help with our G506 is appreciated.

New owner of 1945 Chevy 1 1/2 ton Cargo no winch in Indiana and new member, by darog

Hello,
I am a new owner of a 1945 Chevy 1 1/2 ton Chevy no winch Truck with a composite bed. Serial number above the steering wheel 8NJ38-15382 and Original engine s/n BV-685910. It runs pretty good and I am servicing the brake system this winter. The truck has troop seats, spare tire holder , tailgate, gas tank between the frame rails and the round instruments. I am a new member of this forum and I monitor the Dodge truck forum and the G503 Jeep forum as well.

A previous owner removed all the lumber of the bed wood floor and the steel bed skid strips. I am hoping that members can help me with information on the correct methods and mesurements to restore my composite bed. I have looked through the TM's and I do not find information, photos or measurements on the composite bed floor for the WWII Chevrolet G506 truck.

I am hoping another member has information in that area.
Future projects for the truck:
Mud flaps
Windshield frame
Battery box restore
New wiring harness
Repaint to correct shade of OD
proper period unit markings

Thanks,
Roger in Sheridan Indiana USA

Re: One from the "Other side"....., by artistsrifles

Stolly will have to wait - she came back from the rebuild last Oct - and had the brakes seize on (again) in May.  We've only just finished fixing all the work that was supposed to have been done...   Long and sad story for another time.

Landie is down the Fort rubbed down and awaiting decent weather to allow the respray to happen!!  Once that is done photos will appear! grin
Right now the canopy seems to be shrinking......
